The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) intends to contract with Coherent, Inc. to supply an LPX Pro 220 Excimer Laser for integration into a custom laser ablation system. This contract will be awarded on a basis other than full and open competition because the LPX Pro 220 laser closely matches the specifications and requirements originally set for the now-older Lambda Physik LPX 210i excimer laser previously used in the NRL system. The replacement laser meets critical parameters such as beam size and shape, light energy, optical power, gas needs, beam output location, pulse repetition rate, electrical interface, and compatibility with existing control systems. The delivery of the LPX Pro 220 is required by October 31, 2008. While this is not a formal solicitation, all responsible sources are invited to submit capability statements, proposals, or quotations for consideration. NRL has provided points of contact for inquiries and additional information regarding contract opportunities. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334413 and will be performed in Washington, D.C. The notice emphasizes the unique fit of the LPX Pro 220 to the custom system, reinforcing the rationale behind the restricted competition process.
