The City of Cape Coral is undertaking a project to relocate Lift Station 120, which is currently situated in the median of Skyline Boulevard, a major roadway that also serves as a key evacuation route. The existing lift station, which receives wastewater from six nearby stations, poses a risk of sewage overflow and health hazards if power is lost, especially during weather events. The relocation aims to improve road widening efforts, enhance maintenance access, and increase operational reliability. The project involves constructing a new lift station at a different site, installing a 100-kW backup generator protected against flooding and wind, and implementing a new odor control system along with updated electrical components. Additionally, the existing station and part of the sewer infrastructure will be demolished or abandoned as part of the scope. The contract, titled "Request for Proposal - Professional Engineering and Construction Engineering Inspection Services for Lift Station 120 Relocation," was posted in December 2023 with a deadline for responses set for January 19, 2024. It is a solicitation issued by the City of Cape Coral, Florida, under NAICS code 221320, and is open for professional engineering and construction inspection services. The project emphasizes ensuring the new infrastructure's resilience against natural disasters and integrating it seamlessly into the existing roadway and sewer systems to maintain service continuity and public health safety.

Full Description

The City of Cape Coral (CITY) owns and operates Lift Station 120 (LS 120), which is located in the median of Skyline Boulevard between SW 51st Terrace and SW 52nd Street. LS 120 receives flow from six surrounding lift stations. Loss of power and service due to weather-related issues would result in potential sewage overflow and related health issues for the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Skyline Boulevard is a heavily traversed two-lane artery roadway that currently serves as a primary evacuation route for the area. Relocation of the lift station out of the roadway median is necessary for future road widening, improved maintenance access and reliability and to provide space for installation of a new generator. The generator will be protected against a 500-year flood event and will be protected against wind with a rated enclosure based on its location requirements. The Project includes replacement of LS 120 at a new location, installation of a new 100-kW generator for backup power, installation of a new odor control system, installation of new electrical components, and demolition/abandonment of the existing lift station and a portion of the existing gravity sewer and force main
