The RRC seeks Geotechnical, Drilling, and GroutingServices to be performed for the RRC throughout the state of Texas.TexasNatural Resources Code Chapter 134 and Texas Administrative Code Title 16Chapter 12 provide that, in connection with surface coal mining andreclamation, the RRC may perform activities necessary or expedient to protectthe public health, safety, or general welfare and to restore, reclaim, abate,control, or prevent adverse effects of past coal mining practices(collectively, Reclamation Services).The Abandoned Mine Land programdivision of the RRC is tasked with the reclamation of abandoned surface mineswhich usually consists of the following: earthwork (highwall reduction andspoil recontouring) burial or treatment of unsuitable spoil (usually acidic ornaturally occurring radioactive spoil) and installation of erosion and watercontrol structures and revegetation. Dangerous abandoned underground mineopenings are usually closed by one of the following methods: drilling andgrouting, backfilling, capping (concrete or metal grating) or metal gating.
