Full Description

The Coffin School was originally built in 1948 and served as one of 5 elementary schools in the Town of Marblehead. After nearly 80 years of consistent educational use, the Marblehead School Department decided to decommission the building as a school and transfer its student body to the newly built Lecretia and Joe Brown Elementary School. The building has been vacant since 2021. In 2025, through Town Meeting, the School Committee transferred the care and custody of the building to the Marblehead Select Board. The building is located in a residential area along Turner Road, and Shepard Street, across from residential homes on Turner Road and Shepard Street, and abuts residential homes on Susan Road. The Town is now seeking proposals for potential reuse of this property.
