There has been a review of the experimental sampling design for the purse seine fishery and accuracy of species identification from vessel uploading. (2) Is there any particular concern or issue that prompted this review? If so, can you tell me a bit about it? The purse seine sampling design was implemented in 1988 and has had minor modifications. There is a need to align to western and central Pacific regional standards. There also has been a change in staff at the sampling station and we need to evaluate future staffing requirements. (3) Do you foresee any unusual difficulty for the contractor who performs this review; such as cultural issues? No cultural issues and English is widely spoken. (4) Are there contractors who have done this kind of review for PIRO/PIFSC in AS or elsewhere in the Western Pacific? There are many contractors in the western pacific given that the pelagic fisheries have an ex-vessel value of ~USD5 billion.
