On a regular basis, the City requires assistance to identify and remove abandoned hazardous waste, including biohazards (e.g., needles and human waste), from City rights-of-way (ROWs) and properties. Periodically, the City also requires assistance to perform nonemergency projects such as cleanup of hazardous waste storage/containment structures and decontamination and disposal of hazardous waste associated with closure of homeless encampments. Lastly, emergency response is needed in the event of a hazardous materials incident not handled by the Oakland Fire Department (OFD).
