The contract calls for a qualified proponent to carry out invasive plant management within the Nechako Invasive Plant Management Area (IPMA) located in the Stikine Region of northwest British Columbia. The work primarily involves conducting inventories of invasive plant species, mapping affected areas, and implementing targeted chemical and mechanical treatments on priority plants across multiple jurisdictions including public lands, municipalities, regional districts, private lands, and utilities. The successful contractor will be responsible for on-site data collection, verification, and uploading all information to the provincial InvasivesBC database, as well as maintaining detailed records of labor hours and distances traveled broken down by jurisdiction. Public education on invasive plant impacts and management may also be required, and a concise season-end report summarizing the completed activities is to be submitted. A key requirement is that all personnel involved in herbicide application must possess valid certification, with at least one member of each two-person crew holding a Pesticide Applicator certificate, in compliance with the BC Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulation. The Northwest Invasive Plant Council, a non-profit organization funded by provincial, municipal, regional governments, Crown corporations, utilities, and private industry partners, oversees the project. Interested proponents are encouraged to participate in an online information session scheduled for early February 2026 and must submit proposals by early March 2026. The contract is issued under the Government of Canada through the Northwest Invasive Plant Council, emphasizing adherence to regulatory standards and cooperation across multiple stakeholders to effectively control invasive plant species in the Nechako IPMA.
