San Diego River Fire Hazard Mitigation Program

The City of Santee is implementing the San Diego River Fire Hazard Mitigation Program to reduce wildfire risks across a project site spanning nearly 300 acres. This area consists of 33 parcels, including 29 distinct parcels and four rights-of-way portions located along the San Diego River corridor. Because the site is situated within a wildland-urban interface, it encompasses critical public infrastructure, residential neighborhoods, and biologically sensitive habitats. The program focuses on a targeted and ecologically conscious approach to vegetation management to address increasing fire risks and the encroachment of invasive plants. These efforts are designed to navigate the complex ownership and access constraints unique to the corridor. Managed by the City of Santee Fire Department, the initiative aims to protect the community and surrounding environment through the execution of the San Diego River Fire Hazard Mitigation Plan.
