The City of Cupertino has issued a tree removal permit for the removal of three protected Liquidambar trees located in the common area outside the patio fence of an apartment unit at the Villages at Cupertino Apartments on 20990 Valley Green Drive. The trees to be removed measure 18 inches, 14 inches, and 20 inches in diameter and are part of the property’s protected vegetation. In accordance with permit requirements, these trees will be replaced with a total of five new trees: two 24-inch-box Coast Live Oaks, one 24-inch-box Netleaf Oak, one Island Live Oak, and two Crepe Myrtles. The replacement trees are strategically placed with the oaks facing Stelling Road to enhance curb appeal and visual screening, while the Crepe Myrtles are to be planted within the interior common area to maintain landscaping continuity and biodiversity. The permit, identified as TR-2026-024, was posted on August 5, 2026, and is managed by the City’s Permit Technician Catherine Tarone, with Arborist Kevin Chisholm providing technical oversight. All replacement work must comply with city guidelines for tree sizing, species selection, and placement to ensure ecological and aesthetic standards are met.
