San Jose Creek Multi-Use Bikeway Project

The City of Pomona is implementing the San Jose Creek Multi-Use Bikeway Project, a Tier 1 priority initiative to develop a 3.5-mile off-road bike and pedestrian path between Temple Avenue and Murchison Avenue. The project aims to provide a safer transit corridor connecting key destinations, including California Polytechnic University at Pomona, the Los Angeles County Fairplex, regional transit hubs, parks, schools, and shopping centers. The infrastructure will feature a 10-foot wide path with 2-foot shoulders, constructed using asphalt concrete over a crushed miscellaneous base. Key project components include 15 access points, six at-grade street crossings, stormwater capture treatments, concrete retaining walls at the SR 71 undercrossing, and three landscaped trailheads equipped with bike racks, wayfinding signage, and solar post lights. The project includes the installation of approximately 77 solar-powered LED post lights and traffic signal modifications at seven intersections. Construction is anticipated to occur between January 2026 and July 2027, with a total duration of 12 to 18 months. Environmental compliance has been established through a Final Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration, with the project officially approved on August 3, 2026. Special requirements for the contractor include the use of best-available noise-reducing technology, the installation of temporary sound barriers with a Sound Transmission Class rating of 30 or greater near sensitive receptors, and the placement of conspicuous site signage including permit numbers and violation reporting contacts.
