San Lorenzo Way Bridge Replacement Project

The San Lorenzo Way Bridge Replacement Project, managed by the County of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works, involves the replacement of the aging and historic single lane bridge structure number 36C-0085 over the San Lorenzo River. The scope of work includes modifying bridge approaches to correct steep grades and implementing improvements at the SR 9/San Lorenzo Way intersection to enhance highway merging. To maintain land access on the east side of the bridge during construction, an existing private gravel road will be utilized as a temporary access route. The project is governed by Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-SCR-64152-R3 and was approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on December 31, 2025. Environmental protections are a primary requirement, mandating that all replacement work remain outside the ordinary high-water marks of the San Lorenzo River and that construction activities be isolated to the upper banks above the river channel.
