The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport is preparing to issue a solicitation for the production and installation of in-water subsystems (IWS) for new undersea tracking ranges located in shallow waters off the U.S. east and west coasts, each covering approximately 500 square nautical miles. These ranges will support real-time tracking of exercise participants and facilitate training in undersea warfare. The IWS will serve as a crucial communication link between the shore-based Range Operations Centers (ROC) and the offshore undersea range areas near San Diego, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. These systems are designed to be permanently installed with an expected operational lifespan of 20 years. The IWS components include the Ocean Sensor Subsystem, consisting of acoustic and telemetry parts, electro-mechanical optical cables, and pressure housings, as well as the Shore Electronics Subsystem which provides power, processes sensor data, controls hardware functions, and interfaces with the ROC display systems. To aid in developing the Request for Proposal (RFP), NUWC is conducting a market survey to gather industry input for optimizing the specification and statement of work. Industry representatives are invited to attend discussion sessions in Newport, Rhode Island, scheduled over three days in January, with multiple two-hour slots available. Companies may send up to three attendees to these sessions, with participation requests required in writing or via email to the designated point of contact, Mr. William Hurley. Attendees must also comply with NUWC's visitor guidelines. This market survey is a key step in ensuring the final procurement reflects current industry capabilities and requirements for these sophisticated undersea tracking systems.
