The AN/APN-209(V) family of radar altimeters, produced sole source by Honeywell, Inc., has been the standard for U.S. Army helicopters since 1975, used to provide the pilot and copilot with an accurate indication of radar altitude over ranges of 0 to 8,000 feet for the Receiver Transmitter (RT) and Receiver Transmitter Indicator (IRT) units and 0 to 1,500 feet for the Remote Indicator (RMT) above all types of terrain surfaces. Warnings are provided when the aircraft is at, above or below certain fixed or pilot adjustable altitudes.
