Caltrans District 1 Eureka is implementing the South Area Bridge 26/27 project to perform preventative maintenance on various bridges across Lake and Mendocino Counties. The scope of work focuses on preserving structural integrity to delay or minimize the need for major rehabilitation or replacement. Key activities include applying polyester concrete overlays, treating bridge decks with methacrylate, replacing joint seals, and performing cold planing and replacement of asphalt concrete at depths of 0.25 to 0.33 feet at approaches and departures. The project also includes the installation of traffic delineation, construction area signs, and portable changeable message signs. The work is located on Routes 20, 29, 101, 162, 253, and 271, with all activities conducted within the existing State right of way. To minimize environmental impact, equipment staging is restricted to paved surfaces and existing non-vegetated turnouts. This project is classified as a forecast under NAICS code 237310 and has been granted a Notice of Exemption under Class 1 of the California Code of Regulations, as it involves the maintenance of existing facilities with no significant environmental or historic impact.
