The two 138kV Transmission Lines that feed the Florida Keys from the Florida mainland are jointly owned by Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) and Keys Energy Services (KEYS) beginning at the Monroe/Miami-Dade county border. The two 138kV lines are served by Florida Power & Light (FPL). The load on some of the Transmission Lines throughout the Florida Keys encroaches on their limits (Thermal or Voltage Stability) during peak loading periods. KEYS/FKEC/FMPA are seeking options for the feasibility of upgrading Transmission capacity to meet future load requirements, Please see Bid Package for complete details.
