The contract involves a study to assess the feasibility of increasing the transmission capacity of two 138kV lines that supply the Florida Keys from the Florida mainland, beginning at the Monroe/Miami-Dade county border. These lines, jointly owned by Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) and Keys Energy Services (KEYS), are currently served by Florida Power & Light (FPL). During peak load periods, some sections of these transmission lines experience thermal or voltage stability issues, indicating a need for capacity upgrades to accommodate future growth in demand. The project aims to explore options for enhancing the transmission system's capacity to ensure reliable power delivery to the Florida Keys. The solicitation, titled "Specifications For Transmission Capacity Increase Study," was posted on October 14, 2024, with a response deadline of November 1, 2024. The contract size ranges between $500,000 and $2,000,000, and the project is managed by the Florida Keys Electric Cooperative Association, a state-level organization in Florida. Interested parties can find more details and submit responses through the DemandStar platform.
