AI Contract Overview
The Submerged Infrastructure Inspection Challenge, issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under solicitation USACE-SN2026-001, seeks innovative and field-ready technologies capable of inspecting submerged lock infrastructure without requiring dewatering. The goal is to obtain high-resolution, actionable data on underwater concrete and steel components to assist in future maintenance planning. Ideal participants include those specializing in underwater imaging, robotics, sensing, marine operations, and data collection technologies that can effectively evaluate underwater structures while they remain in service. The challenge emphasizes practical solutions that operate reliably in real-world underwater environments and aid engineers in identifying structural issues during routine operation. The competition is structured in two phases. Phase 1 requires submission of applications detailing the technology and capabilities by June 12, 2026. Up to eight finalists will each receive $10,000 and progress to Phase 2, where they will demonstrate their technologies at a designated lock site in July 2026 prior to a planned dewatering inspection. The grand prize for the winning technology demonstration is $150,000. The challenge represents a significant opportunity for developers of underwater inspection solutions to contribute to smarter, more efficient lock maintenance while proving the operational readiness of their technologies. The point of contact for the challenge is Expedition Hacks, with further details accessible through the official SAM.gov portal.
