DOE Critical Mineral Resource Potential
Solicitation # DOECriticalMineralResource2026
The Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management is seeking expressions of interest from potential collaborators to reuse, recover, and repurpose critical and rare earth minerals from its legacy inventories. The primary objective is to bolster and diversify the U.S. domestic supply chain for scientific, manufacturing, and energy needs. Significant resources are located at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site in Kentucky, including approximately 8,000 tons of aluminum and 2,000 tons of copper, both of which are surficially contaminated with uranium, as well as smaller quantities of tungsten, silver, platinum, and selenium. Other materials of interest include lead bricks and lead shot at the Nevada National Security Site and lithium hydride shields at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This action is strictly an Expression of Interest and does not constitute a Notice of Funding Opportunity; the DOE will not provide compensation for submitted information, and industry partners are responsible for all extraction and reprocessing costs. Interested parties must submit electronic responses in a specific Microsoft Word format to [email hidden] by November 2, 2026. Submissions should detail the organization's technical capabilities, material requirements, proposed reuse plans, and strategies for waste management.
