Ta’che—Nóó-nih Yaash Acquisition

The California State Coastal Conservancy is moving forward with the Ta’che—Nóó-nih Yaash Acquisition to secure 255 acres in Whitethorn, Humboldt County, with the goal of protecting and restoring native ecosystems, waterways, and cultural landscapes while ensuring continued access for California Native American tribes. The project includes the removal of existing cannabis infrastructure to eliminate environmental damage and prepare the land for conservation. Following acquisition, the property will be transferred to the InterTribal Sinkyone Wilderness Council to ensure long-term stewardship rooted in Indigenous knowledge and practices. Initial stewardship planning will be conducted to guide future management, balancing ecological recovery with the preservation of cultural heritage and allowing for limited, compatible public access in alignment with tribal priorities.
