The Geothermal Leasehold of the Union Oil Company at The Geysers, Sonoma County, California

The Geysers Power Company, LLC is undertaking the drilling of a grass roots injection well, identified as DX-91 (DX State 4596 – 91, API# 097-90907), located at The Geysers Geothermal Field in Sonoma County, California. The primary objective of this project is to address steam decline in the area. The project is situated on an existing and fully disturbed well pad, and all active work will be contained within this footprint. The project has been approved by the California Department of Conservation's Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) and is in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The technical scope of work involves a multi-stage drilling process over an estimated duration of 70 days. This includes drilling a 26 inch hole to 535 feet with 20 inch surface casing, directionally drilling a 17-1/2 inch hole to 1500 feet with 13-3/8 inch intermediate casing, and directionally drilling a 12-1/4 inch hole to 4600 feet with a 9-5/8 inch liner. The final phase requires drilling an 8-1/2 inch hole to 8500 feet, setting a 7 inch production liner with an 8-5/8 inch receptacle, and running a 7 inch hangdown liner before shutting in the well and rigging down. Equipment utilized will include a standard drill rig, service vehicles, pickup trucks, and cement trucks.
