This contract supports the U.S. Army’s Third Generation Forward Looking Infrared (3GEN FLIR) program, an Acquisition Category II initiative aimed at advancing the Army’s FLIR sensor technology for improved reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition capabilities. The 3GEN FLIR technology, which uses passive infrared imaging, enables effective targeting and fire control operations under various conditions, including day or night, smoke, and degraded battlefield environments. The program focuses on maximizing component compatibility and commonality to deploy advanced thermal imaging while significantly reducing lifecycle costs. The current phase, involving the Production and Deployment of the 3GEN FLIR Dewar Cooler Bench (DCB) B-Kit, specifically targets ground-based platforms. The contract is structured as a hybrid firm fixed price agreement for the production of DCB hardware, combined with cost-plus-fixed-fee/completion contracts for technical, engineering, testing, and logistics support. Managed by the Department of Defense’s W6QK Acc-apg Cont Ct in Alexandria, Virginia, the work is performed in Texas. The solicitation, numbered W909MY22C0023_JA, was posted in May 2026 and aligns with NAICS code 334511. Points of contact include Taylor Venanzi and Alexis Williams, overseeing the overall coordination and administration of this essential acquisition supporting the modernization of Army thermal imaging capabilities.

The DCB requirement is necessary to support the U.S. Army’s 3GEN FLIR program, an Acquisition Category (ACAT) II program, and improve the Army's existing FLIR sensor technology and provide enhanced capabilities for reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition. The Army approved the Improved the Improved FLIR (I-FLIR) Capability Development Document Update (CDD-U) Revision 1 on 149 December August 201822. FLIR is a passive imaging technology that senses infrared radiation and allows targeting and fire control operations during day or night, in the presence of smoke and in overall degraded battlefield conditions. The 3GEN FLIR seeks to maximize compatibility and commonality of components to deploy advanced thermal imaging capabilities to the Army and vastly reduce lifecycle costs. The 3GEN FLIR B-Kit Production and Deployment phase is focused on ground-based platforms.  The contract is a hybrid FFP for DCB hardware production and CPFF/Completion for technical & engineering, test, and logistics services.
