Threatened and Endangered Species Due to the Urban Growth Areas within the Multiple Habitat Conservation Program (MHCP) Planning Areas

The County of San Diego is implementing the Cactus Habitat Enhancement to Benefit Coastal Cactus Wren Project at the Lakeside Linkage County Preserve, located in southwestern San Diego County. This initiative, situated within the Multiple Species Conservation Program Planning Area, aims to conserve the coastal cactus wren, an MSCP covered species, by enhancing its natural habitat. The project was approved on September 12, 2025, following a determination that it would not have significant environmental effects. The scope of work involves the selective trimming of native plants and the removal of invasive non-native plants within and adjacent to previously restored cactus patches across a 5-acre area. These activities will be performed over a one-month period, utilizing manual cutting for native species and a combination of hand removal and line trimmers for invasive plants.
