Waggoner Elementary Native Tree Landscaping

The Waggoner Elementary Native Tree Landscaping project, managed by the Yolo County Resource Conservation District, involves the installation of native plant landscaping at 500 Edwards St, Winters, California. The project focuses on enhancing an expanded student loading and unloading zone and new parking lot areas to create beneficial habitat, forage, and shelter for native wildlife and pollinators in an urban environment. The Yolo County Resource Conservation District is responsible for native plant selection and installation assistance, while the actual construction portion is handled separately. To minimize environmental impact, all native trees and plants will be installed by hand using shovels and hand tools rather than mechanized equipment. A biological review identified the site as being within the range of the western bumblebee, and the project is designed to avoid negatively impacting special status plants or wildlife. Implementation is scheduled for the fall or winter season. The project is under five acres and qualifies for a Class 33 Categorical Exemption under CEQA guidelines as a small habitat restoration project with no significant adverse environmental impacts.
