The Town of Strathmore is seeking proposals for the preliminary design and upgrade of Township Road 244, extending from Highway 817/Wheatland Trail in the east to Range Road 253/Wildflower Road in the west. The project aims to transition the current rural paved road into a more developed arterial road with a 36-meter right-of-way, although an interim upgrade solution is intended to accommodate existing traffic and expected growth in the short to medium term. The scope of work includes conducting a topographical survey, preparing a preliminary design of the roadway and adjacent intersections, and developing a proposed interim solution. Additionally, a Class 3 cost estimate with typical contingencies (+20% / -15%) is required to facilitate future budgeting and support grant applications. The existing roadway is in a deteriorating condition, with the possibility of weight restrictions until the upgrades are completed. Of particular importance is the intersection with Highway 817, which has been highlighted by Alberta Transportation & Economic Corridors due to anticipated increased traffic volumes and regional growth. The project is administered by the Town of Strathmore under a federal organization, with proposals due by February 10, 2026. The contract aims to address both immediate operational concerns and long-term infrastructure planning for the community.

Full Description

The Town of Strathmore is looking to upgrade Township Road 244 from Highway 817/Wheatland Trail in the East to Range Road 253/Wildflower Road in the West. The ultimate plan is to update the current rural paved cross section to an Arterial cross section (36m ROW) however an interim solution is likely appropriate to accommodate current traffic volumes and short to medium term growth projections. Work will include a topographical survey of the current condition and preliminary design of the TWP 244 roadway along with adjacent intersections. A proposed interim solution is to be provided along with a Class 3 (+20% / -15%) estimate to support future budgeting and grant applications. The current roadway is deteriorating and has the potential to be weight restricted until future upgrades occur. Additionally, the intersection with Highway 817 has been identified by Alberta Transportation & Economic Corridors as an intersection of importance as growth and traffic volumes increase.
