The Recycled Water Systems Project involves designing and constructing an Advanced Water Treatment Plant (AWTP) at the Mel Leong Treatment Plant to meet stringent Title 22 standards and effectively remove PFAS from wastewater effluent. The project encompasses the installation of a 250,000-gallon storage tank, a pump station, and approximately three miles of pipeline to connect the new system with existing facilities at the airport. Additionally, upgrades will be made to three existing Sequence Batch Reactors (SBRs), along with the construction of a new SBR to ensure compliance with permit requirements. This is a progressive design-build effort, with trade work authorized incrementally by the airport, aiming to complete the design, construction, permitting, activation, commissioning, and closeout of the new recycled water infrastructure within the current treatment plant setting, which includes parallel treatment processes for various wastewater streams. One specific trade package, TP-4023, involves the furnishing and installation of glazed overhead doors at the Process and Blower Buildings. The scope includes installing four doors at the Process Building and one at the Blower Building, complete with electrical and control systems, anchor assemblies, joint sealants, and wind load design considerations. Steel framing requirements are to be provided by others, with seismic calculations also required. Pre-qualified bidders are invited to submit proposals by July 23, 2025, with Walsh Construction acting as the design-builder. The project is valued between 50 and 100 million dollars, with the primary contact being Tiffany Gonzalez-Ruiz at SFO Construction.
