The Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane is seeking two Trigger Spark Gaps, part number ZR7512 SPRK GAP, TRIG VAC, 45 KV, under a brand name procurement authorized under FAR 12.201-1, with an option to purchase eight additional units over the next four years, each to be delivered within 22 weeks of award or option exercise. The requirement is exclusively tied to this specific commercial item, originally manufactured by General Electric and distributed by MPD Components, Inc. of Owensboro, Kentucky, Cage Code 33173, which is the sole source due to the unique design and performance characteristics of the ZR7512 as a cold-cathode, vacuum-triggered spark gap critical for high-voltage switching in mission-critical systems such as the Aegis Simplified Driver and SPS-49 Radar Klystron. Market and engineering analysis has determined that no alternative component can meet the technical specifications required for seamless integration without prohibitively costly and risky redesigns, justifying the non-competitive approach. The procurement is a firm fixed price request for quotes, issued as a written solicitation with a revised closing date of July 21, 2026, at 11:00 PM Eastern Time. All offers must be submitted electronically to rose.m.brown44.civ@us.navy.mil and must include the offeror’s Unique Entity Identifier, CAGE code, signed and dated proposal, and explicit agreement with all solicitation terms. Compliance with SAM registration and annual certifications is mandatory, and offers must remain firm for 60 days after the closing date. The contract will be issued as a DO-rated order, and the contractor must adhere to strict DoD item identification standards under MIL-STD-130 and MIL-STD-129, including machine-readable unique item identifiers on each unit and on shipping containers. Delivery is to NSWC Crane’s receiving facility at 300 Highway 361, Building 41, Crane, IN. Acceptance will occur at destination by government personnel, with the right to reject non-conforming items at no additional cost. Payment must be processed via Wide Area Workflow, and contractors must comply with federal laws including procurement integrity, kickbacks, and contractor work hours, as well as cybersecurity requirements under NIST SP 800-171 and anti-trafficking regulations. Warranty tracking, counterfeit part avoidance, and part sourcing

N0016426Q0160 – SOLE SOURCE – TRIGGER SPARK GAPS – FSG 5960 – NAICS 334511

ISSUE DATE 21-MAY-2026 – CLOSING DATE 29-MAY-2026 – 11:00 PM Eastern Time

ITEM DESCRIPTION- Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane has a requirement for an initial quantity of two (2) Trigger Spark Gaps, part number ZR7512 SPRK GAP, TRIG VAC, 45 KV with additional options over the next four years to purchase an additional quantity of eight (8) Trigger Spark Gaps. Required delivery is within 22 weeks of award or option exercise.

SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT- The proposed contract action is for the supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with one source only MPD Components, Inc. of Owensboro, Kentucky, Cage Code 33173, under the authority of FAR 12.201-1 for commercial items using simplified procedures. This is being solicited on a sole source only basis because the ZR7512 is a cold-cathode, vacuum-triggered spark gap designed for high-voltage switching applications. It is a General Electric product, part of the ZR-series triggered vacuum gaps, and is used in systems requiring rapid, high-current switching of stored energy.  The ZR7512 combines the wide voltage range and reliability of vacuum gaps with the ease of triggering of gas gaps. It is suitable for non-repetitive high-current pulses with minimal delay and jitter, making it ideal for fault protection and energy discharge.  The ZR7512 Triggered Spark Gap is a mission-critical safety and operational component that provides essential high-voltage and high-current protection for the Aegis Simplified Driver (SDR), the SPS-49 Radar Klystron microwave tube, associated testing infrastructure, and operating personnel. Extensive market and engineering analysis confirms that no other triggered spark gap possesses the necessary specifications to seamlessly integrate into the current architecture. Attempting to procure and integrate a substitute component is both technically and financially prohibitive; it would necessitate a major, highly costly engineering redesign of the larger assembly and introduce unacceptable risks to the production schedule, quality, and reliability of future Microwave Tube (MWT) manufacturing.  All responsible sources may submit a capability statement, which shall be considered by the agency. However, a determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed contract based upon responses to this solicitation is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.

Contractors must be properly registered in the System for Award Management (SAM). Offerors may obtain information on SAM registration and annual confirmation requirements by calling 866-606-8220 or via the internet at https://sam.gov.

This solicitation is being issued pursuant to the procedures at FAR 12.201-1 as a written Firm Fixed Priced Request for Quotes .  Synopsis exception FAR 5.202(a)(13) applies and Solicitation Number N0016426Q0160 is hereby issued as an attachment hereto.

All changes to the requirement that occur prior to the closing date will be posted to Contract Opportunities on https://sam.gov/.  It is the responsibility of interested vendors to monitor https://sam.gov/ for any amendments, which may be issued to this solicitation.

For changes made after the closing date, only those offerors that provide a quote will be provided any changes/amendments and considered for future discussions and/or award.

Offers shall be e-mailed to rose.m.brown44.civ@us.navy.mil.    All required information must be received on or before 29-MAY-2026 – 11:00 PM Eastern Time.

AMENDED

Re-ISSUE DATE 25-JUN-2026 – CLOSING DATE 21-JUL-2026 – 11:00 PM Eastern Time

BRAND NAME PROCUREMENT- The proposed contract action is for the supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate an action for Original Equipment Manufacturer products from MPD Components, Inc. of Owensboro, Kentucky, Cage Code 33173, under the authority of FAR 12.201-1 for commercial items using simplified procedures. This is being solicited on a Brand Name basis because MPD Components, Inc. of Owensboro, Kentucky, Cage Code 33173, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the ZR7512 Triggered Spark Gap is not equipped to sell directly to the Federal Government and has various third-party distributors.

Offers shall be e-mailed to rose.m.brown44.civ@us.navy.mil.    All required information must be received on or before 21-JUL-2026 – 11:00 PM Eastern Time.
