Thermo Orbitrap Fusion HRMS and Vanquish UHPLCThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through its office in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, has issued a notice of intent to sole source a maintenance service agreement for the Thermo Orbitrap Fusion HRMS and Vanquish UHPLC instrumentation. This action is based on the unique specifications and proprietary nature of the equipment, which necessitates service exclusively from the original equipment manufacturer to ensure operational integrity, calibration accuracy, and compliance with regulatory analytical standards. The solicitation number is 68HERF26Q0086, classified under NAICS code 334516 for laboratory instrumentation manufacturing and service, and the notice was posted on July 1, 2026, with a response deadline of July 15, 2026. No set-aside provisions apply to this action, as it is designated for federal procurement and not subject to small business or other demographic set-asides. The maintenance services will include comprehensive support such as preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, software updates, technical support, and performance validation critical for high-resolution mass spectrometry operations. The equipment is essential for environmental sample analysis and must remain operational under stringent quality assurance protocols. All service must be rendered at the agency’s designated location in Research Triangle Park, and the contract will be awarded without competitive solicitation due to the proprietary technology and lack of qualified alternate vendors capable of servicing this specific instrumentation configuration.

Notice of Intent to Sole Source FEI Company (Thermo Fisher Scientific) ServiceThe Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory intends to award a sole source service agreement to FEI Company, a subsidiary of Thermo Fisher Scientific, for ongoing maintenance and support of its Apreo2-C Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope and EDS UltraDry 60M (129 eV) system. This action follows the expiration of the instrument’s warranty and is necessary to ensure continued operational integrity, including repairs, replacement parts, and system upgrades that meet the unique technical specifications of the equipment. FEI Company is the only authorized provider in the United States capable of servicing this specific model due to proprietary technology and specialized training requirements, leaving no commercially viable alternative sources. The service agreement will ensure uninterrupted use of the microscope for critical research activities. This notice serves as a public announcement of the intended sole source purchase and is not a solicitation for proposals. Any entity believing it can meet the technical requirements must submit written evidence of capability to Contracting Officer Arturo Manantan at arturo.manantan@netl.doe.gov by 5:00 PM EDT on July 16, 2026.
