UC Santa Barbara Long Range Development Plan

The East Campus Student Housing project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, involves the demolition of the existing Santa Rosa Residence Hall to make way for significant new residential development and facility renovations. The scope of work includes the construction of approximately 328,000 assignable square feet and 470,200 gross square feet of new residential space, which will provide a total of 1,688 beds. This capacity includes 1,276 new undergraduate student beds in apartment-style units and 412 replacement residence hall beds. Additionally, the project encompasses the renovation of the existing Ortega Dining Commons. To accommodate the new construction, the project includes Long Range Development Plan Amendment #8, which increases the applicable height limit from 65 feet to 85 feet for two buildings in the north-center of the site and updates LRDP maps to reflect current parking and circulation conditions. The project received formal approval on November 20, 2025, and is subject to strict environmental compliance under the California Environmental Quality Act. All development must adhere to the mitigation measures established in the 2010 Long Range Development Plan Environmental Impact Report and Addendum No. 6. These mitigation measures are mandatory conditions of approval, and their implementation will be strictly monitored and reported in accordance with the established Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program.
