AI Contract Overview
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Chemical Sciences Division intends to procure a Unipolar Diffusion Aerosol Charger to support its Grand Challenge Project. This equipment is essential for providing precise unipolar diffusion charging of aerosol particles, which facilitates advanced metrology and chemical analysis. The acquisition is planned as a sole source procurement under FAR Part 12.102(b) with Cambustion, Ltd., Inc. based in the United Kingdom, as market research and a previous sources sought notice indicated no other manufacturers meet the technical requirements. The requirement falls under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing. While NIST intends to negotiate a sole source contract, interested parties capable of fulfilling the requirements may submit responses to the government for consideration by September 18, 2026. The final decision to proceed with a competitive procurement or maintain the sole source award remains at the discretion of the government.
