US Travelers Health Research, Surveillance, Communication, and Outreach Network

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking to establish a comprehensive network to enhance the health and safety of U.S. travelers internationally by improving pre-travel preparedness, real-time health information access, and rapid research capacity. The initiative focuses on empowering both travelers and healthcare providers with up-to-date, high-quality travel health guidance through scalable digital platforms including electronic medical records, web applications, and mobile tools. These technologies will facilitate the systematic collection of health data before, during, and after travel to identify emerging risks and support timely public health responses. The program aims to strengthen the role of primary care providers in travel medicine by expanding their awareness and equipping them with evidence-based tools to deliver accurate recommendations to international travelers. The network will serve as a foundational platform for ongoing surveillance and research into global health threats affecting U.S. travelers, enabling proactive identification and mitigation of infectious and environmental risks. By integrating data from diverse sources and fostering collaboration across healthcare systems, the project seeks to create a dynamic, responsive infrastructure that informs both individual travel decisions and broader public health policy.
