USAID is partnering with the Ethiopia Ministry of Health under the Ethiopia Health Infrastructure Program to enhance health service access and quality in rural areas. This specific activity focuses on establishing clean, safe, and potable water sources for six newly constructed health centers located in the Amhara and South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. The targeted sites are Haro, Gerbicho, Gelsha, Addis Bet Christian, Maksegnit, and Gult. Because these facilities currently lack municipal water access, the implementation of permanent water supplies is critical for their operational functionality, sanitation, and long-term sustainability. The scope of work involves comprehensive water supply construction, including design verification, well drilling, development, pumping tests, and water quality testing. The contractor is responsible for providing all necessary materials, labor, equipment, and electro-mechanical pumps. Additionally, the project requires the installation of community water points and associated conveyance systems specifically for the Maksegnit and Gult sites. This effort ensures that the health centers can transition from completed structures to fully functional medical facilities managed by Regional Health Bureaus.

Full Description

USAID is working in partnership with the Ethiopia Ministry of Health to improve health infrastructure throughout Ethiopia as part of USAID's Ethiopia Health Infrastructure Program (EHIP). The program aims to improve access to and quality of health services in rural areas of the country. The current phase of EHIP includes construction of 17 health centers, which will be owned and operated by Regional Health Bureaus upon completion of construction and handover by USAID. This particular activity, however, addresses the development and provision of clean, safe, potable water at facilities where there is currently no access to a municipal water source. Improving access to water supply is an integral component for sanitation, proper functioning, and future sustainability of the health centers. The health centers identified herein are recently completed but may not yet be functional as they await permanent water and electricity supply. The provision of permanent water source will be imperative for the proper functioning of the health centers. The purpose of this activity is to provide access to water at six (6) new Health Centers in Amhara and South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. The Water Supply Activity includes well drilling and development (but not be limited to--the design verification, testing, material, labor, and equipment to construct groundwater wells), pumping tests, water quality testing, provision of electro-mechanical pumps, and in the case of two sites (Maksegnit and Gult), community water points and associated conveyance systems.
