The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is offering a timber sale on the Richloam Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest in Sumter County, Florida. The sale encompasses approximately 584 acres of planted slash pine, where selective thinning will be conducted by harvesting every third row and additional trees in remaining rows to achieve a residual basal area of 50 square feet per acre. The harvesting process prioritizes diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees, followed by intermediate and co-dominant trees to meet the basal area target. In areas where planting rows are not clearly defined, operators will select residual trees based on quality, leaving the best-formed and largest trees. The sale excludes timber marked with orange paint and is bounded by roads, wetlands, stand type changes, forest boundaries, or orange paint. The estimated timber volumes include over 15,000 tons of pine pulpwood/mulchwood, 2,415 tons of chip-n-saw, and 205 tons of sawtimber. Strict adherence to best management practices will be enforced due to wetlands within the sale area. The contract duration is 18 months, with bids due by March 13, 2025, and the bidding process taking place in Brooksville, Florida. Interested bidders can contact Andrew Kent for detailed bid information, and the Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any bids or waive irregularities.
