The contract involves the removal and replacement of an automatic rolling vehicle gate at Building 288. The existing gate, approximately 50 feet long and 6.5 feet high, constructed of metal tubing and chain link fabric, will be completely dismantled along with its gate operator, concrete foundations, metal rail, brackets, conduits, and other accessories. The removal process includes making two saw cuts in the asphalt pavement beneath the gate location, removing the asphalt between these cuts, excavating as necessary, and compacting the subgrade before laying a new 6-inch compacted base course and a 12-inch concrete foundation measuring roughly 42 feet long by 6 feet wide. This foundation will be flush with the surrounding pavement and have a textured surface with embedded metal wheel tracks to guide the new gate’s wheels. The new rolling gate will be approximately 55 feet long and 6.5 feet high, made from 2" x 3" metal tubing rails and 9-gauge chain link fabric with 2-inch square mesh. It will be topped with three strands of barbed wire about 12 inches high for added security. The bottom rail of the new gate will be no more than six inches above the concrete foundation to ensure proper clearance and stability when closed. The exact gate length will be determined by the contractor to guarantee structural stability and operational effectiveness. The contract is a total small business set-aside managed by the Department of Defense, with Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico as the intended location of the work. Points of contact include Brian D Herndon and Contracting Officer Theresa A. Sandoval.
