LBNL Future Scientifc Project -Feasibility Studies

The University of California, managing the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is seeking qualifications from architect-engineering firms for design services related to a potential future scientific facility. The scope of work focuses on site planning, massing, programming, and feasibility studies for a complex that may include an underground structure for scientific equipment, industrial support buildings, and laboratory office space. This is a solicitation for qualifications rather than a request for quotation, and the University will shortlist the most qualified firms for interviews and potential task assignments based on available funding. To qualify, the primary firm must be led by a registered architect or engineer and maintain a team of California-registered professionals specializing in architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as a certified cost estimator. Key requirements include the ability to use standard Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software and a mandate that principals and lead consultants be located within 75 air miles of Berkeley, California. Selection will be based on general qualifications, specific experience with R&D laboratories and hazardous materials within the last five years, personnel expertise, past performance with government or academic institutions, and proposed labor rates. Interested firms must submit a Standard Form 330 and other required certifications by September 26, 2011.

Geotechnical Engineering Services at LBNL For Future Project Planning

The University of California, on behalf of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is seeking qualifications from professional geotechnical engineering firms for future project planning. The scope of work involves geotechnical investigations and reporting for facilities that may include tunnels, cut and cover construction, and low vibration environments built below the water table in permeable soils. Services required include conducting investigations, establishing design criteria, observing excavations, and providing final as-built reports. To qualify, the primary firm and its sub-consultants must maintain a local office within 75 air miles of Berkeley, California, and employ a team including a geologist and a geotechnical engineer licensed in California. Selection will be based on the firm's recent experience with tunnel and vibration-sensitive laboratory construction, personnel expertise, past performance, and previous work with the Department of Energy or the University of California. Interested firms must submit five copies of Standard Form 330 and a Representations and Certifications form by June 15, 2010.
