10--Intake Channel Rock Stabilization, Birch Hill Dam, Royalston, MA

This contract action was accomplished using other than competitive procedures because a statute exists that expressly authorizes or requires that the acquisition be made from a specific source or through another agency (FAR 6.302-5); specifically, Sole source awards under the 8(a) Program. Per FAR 6.302-5 a J&A is not required for this award. The work of this project consists of the construction of a concrete wall to protect the north face of the existing intake channel wall, and to stabilize the rock cut face of the intake channel, at the Birch Hill Dam in Royalston, Massachusetts. The work requires the removal of detached rock from the channel and top of slope, rock surface cleanup, rock slope excavation, the installation of rock dowels, the placement of steel reinforced concrete, and the placement of stone protection and gravel fill. Additional work includes cutting/removing a section of the existing wing wall, installing railings, and installing a tile gage on the new wall. The control and diversion of flows in the intake channel is required to construct the project in dry conditions.
