The Naval Sea Systems Command plans to award a follow-on sole source contract to Raytheon Company for the production of upgrade kits and related components for the MK 57 NATO SEASPARROW Surface Missile System. These kits, including the rearchitectured RNSSMS ORDALT, MK 73 Solid State Transmitter ORDALT, and MK 29 Guided Missile Launching System ORDALT, are intended to enhance existing U.S. Navy ships with the Evolved SEASPARROW Missile capability. Raytheon is uniquely qualified for this contract as the sole designer, developer, and manufacturer of these systems and their associated modifications, possessing the exclusive expertise, knowledge, and facilities necessary to continue production. The contract covers the provision of ordnance alteration kits, spares, technical data, and related hardware, all aimed at modernizing legacy missile systems. Given Raytheon's proprietary role in these systems, they are the only source capable of fulfilling the Navy’s requirements for continued support and upgrades. Firms interested in subcontracting opportunities are advised to contact Raytheon directly. This presolicitation, identified by solicitation number N0002406R5415, was posted in early 2006 and highlights the government’s intent to maintain and advance the Navy’s missile defense capabilities through this seamless upgrade initiative.
