The contract modification updates a previous announcement regarding the multi-year procurement of DDG 51 Class Aegis Destroyers for fiscal years 2002 through 2005. The plan includes the construction of two ships per fiscal year during this period. In addition to this baseline, the solicitation incorporates options for one additional ship each year from fiscal years 2003 to 2007, potentially extending the procurement beyond the initial period. Solicitation number N00024-02-R-2303 will be issued to two primary contractors: Bath Iron Works, a General Dynamics Company located in Bath, Maine, and Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Ingalls Operation in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This multi-year approach is designed to streamline procurement and shipbuilding efforts for the DDG 51 Class Aegis Destroyers, ensuring continuous production while allowing for flexibility with the optional ship increments in later years.
