19--Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships T-AKE 1 Class

The Naval Sea Systems Command intends to contract with National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), 2798 Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92113, for Ships 10 through 14! of the Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ship (T-AKE) Class. The T-AKE Class will provide logistic lift from sources of supply and will transfer this cargo at sea to station ships and other naval forces. Contract N00024-02-C-2300 was competitively awarded to NASSCO on 18 October 2001 for the detail design and construction of the T-AKE Class lead ship plus options for the construction of eleven follow ships. The contract options for Ships 10 through 12 were not exercised; however, the Navy requirements for those ships remains. The Navy intends to enter into sole source negotiations with NASSCO to re-establish the price for option ship 10 and options ships 11 and 12. The solicitation will also include options for two additional ships (T-AKEs 13 and 14) for a total of five (5). The detail design for the T-AKE Class is complete and delivery of the lead ship is planned for June 2006. The Navy has exercised options for follow Ships 2 through 9 and work on those ships is underway. NASSCO ! is deemed the only responsible source and no other supplies or service s will satisfy the Government's requirements.
