19--FY 04 LCAC SLEP

The Naval Sea Systems Command plans to award a modification under the existing contract with Textron Marine and Land Systems to support the Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) for four Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) vessels during Fiscal Year 2004. This program aims to extend the operational lifespan of these craft from 20 to 30 years through extensive refurbishment and upgrades. The work involves renewing key components such as the hull (buoyancy box), upgrading the onboard command, control, communications, and navigation (C4N) systems to a modern open-architecture design, enhancing engines, refurbishing rotating machinery, improving the skirt and fuel systems, and increasing damage stability. Textron Marine and Land Systems, as the original designer and sole manufacturer/refurbisher of the LCAC for the Navy, has the specialized expertise necessary to perform this comprehensive upgrade. The contract underscores Textron’s unique role and capabilities in this area, while also inviting interested firms to pursue subcontracting opportunities by contacting Textron directly. This effort reflects the Navy’s commitment to maintaining and modernizing its LCAC fleet to ensure continued operational readiness and enhanced performance over an extended service life.
