The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is preparing to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2025 for the operation of a specialized Boxing Community Center located within the Van Dyke Community Center in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood. This initiative aims to serve a diverse participant base, primarily residents of the Van Dyke Houses, with at least 51 percent of the participants expected to be local residents. The center will cater to individuals of all ages and genders, with a focus on middle school-aged youth and older, providing daytime access to facilities and equipment, as well as afternoon case management services. Additionally, the center will prioritize engaging high-risk youth and young adults aged 16 to 24, who are at significant risk of involvement in crime and violence, also constituting at least 51 percent of daily participants. The department has released a concept paper to gather public feedback to inform the development of the upcoming RFP. Comments are welcomed until June 13, 2025, and must be submitted via PASSPort, the city’s procurement platform. Organizations interested in responding to the RFP must have an active PASSPort account and an approved HHS Prequalification application. The contract size is estimated to range between five and fifteen million dollars, and the project is managed by NYC DYCD, with Renise Ferguson serving as the primary contact. This initiative reflects DYCD’s ongoing commitment to supporting community-based programs that promote youth development, safety, and community engagement in underserved neighborhoods.

All residents may use equipment and facilities at the Center during the morning operating hours from 9am to 2pm. Residents will also be able to access case management services offered during the afternoon hours. High-risk participants. These participants will be youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 years, living in Brownsville, who are at significant risk for involvement in crime and violence due to disengagement from the wider community.
