Engineering Contracting Officer Representative (COR) to be notified 5 Year Standpipe (Class 1) 2-1/2 Firehose connection on Standpipe. (Class 2) 1-1/2 Firehose connection on Standpipe (Class 3) 2-1/2 & 1-1/2 connection on Standpipe We only have six standpipes and they are (Class 1) (Bldg-1) 3=Standpipes (Bldg-2) 1=Standpipe (Bldg-19) 1= Standpipe (Bldg-26) 1=Standpipe Issue 2. Five-year flow tests: Most VHA facilities that are equipped with standpipe systems have manual standpipe systems that are part of a combined sprinkler/standpipe system. The 2011 edition of NFPA 25 did not require a 5-year flow test on manual standpipe systems. However, the 2014 edition of NFPA 25 now requires a 5-year flow test to be conducted on all Class I and Class III standpipe systems (including manual standpipe systems) to verify that the required flow and pressure are available at the hydraulically most remote hose valve outlet(s) while flowing the standpipe system demand. Ideally, an existing standpipe system would have an automatic water supply already installed (including a fire pump) that would allow the standpipe to be flow tested flowing 500 gpm at 100/65 psi at the most remote standpipe hose connection. If an automatic water supply does not exist and it is not possible to achieve a flow rate of 500 gpm at 100/65 psi at the most remote hose connection, a fire engine or a temporary pump system might have to be utilized to perform the standpipe flow test. (Note that the design criteria in the VA Fire Protection Design Manual would not generally require an automatic water supply for a standpipe.) For manual standpipes, conducting a 5-year flow test at the most remote standpipe hose connection at the maximum flow and pressure provided by the installed system is considered to be an acceptable alternative test method in accordance with NFPA 25, 6.3.1.1.1 and 6.3.1.3.1 (versus using a fire engine or a temporary pump system). This test will show that the standpipe is free of obstructions and is available for use. From NFPA 25, 2014 Edition: 6.3.1.1.1 Where a flow test of the hydraulically most remote outlet(s) is not practical, the authority having jurisdiction shall be consulted for the appropriate location for the test. 6.3.1.3.1 Where the standpipe system demand cannot be determined, the authority having jurisdiction shall determine the standpipe system demand.
