AI Contract Overview
Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (BSA), operating under a prime contract with the U.S. Department of Energy, is soliciting proposals for the supply of a Power Control and Regulating System, specifically a cycloconverter, for the AGS Motor Generator Set at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This procurement is conducted as a full and open competition under NAICS code 335999 with no set-aside status, and the deadline for proposals is May 9, 2026. The cycloconverter system is critical for dynamically controlling the AC input power to a 9 MW wound rotor induction motor that drives a 95 MVA salient pole generator, thereby optimizing the operation of the AGS accelerator magnets. The solicitation includes detailed technical specifications and a statement of work outlining contractor responsibilities such as design, manufacturing, inspection, testing, partial installation, commissioning, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Key amendments to the solicitation have provided clarifications, Q&A responses, and additional documentation including editable versions of attachments and technical images, ensuring that all potential offerors have the necessary information to prepare their proposals. The Statement of Work emphasizes contractor experience with similar cycloconverter systems and mandates compliance with the comprehensive specification C-AD-1369. The system requirements cover a broad spectrum of engineering, including frequency synthesis, power supply management, feedback control loops, protective devices, instrumentation, and both electrical and mechanical design considerations. The procurement is managed out of Upton, New York, with Jeanhei Christy as the primary point of contact. The goal is to secure a high-quality, fully functional cycloconverter system that meets all operational and safety requirements while supporting the advanced scientific missions of the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
