These components are essential for the Juvenile Salmon Acoustic Telemetry System (JSATS), which utilizes acoustic micro-transmitters and receivers to evaluate the survival of juvenile salmonids migrating through the Columbia River Federal Hydropower System. The required hydrophone assemblies must feature a piezoelectric element, shielded amplifier, non-conductive case, and underwater connector, capable of functioning at static pressures up to 600K Pa absolute with a center frequency of 416.7 KHz and a minimum acceptable on-axis receive sensitivity of -180 dBV/uPa plus or minus 2 dBV. This procurement is structured as a one-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity fixed-price contract with four additional option years. The solicitation, identified as W9127N-08-R-0022 under NAICS code 334519, includes a detailed CLIN schedule with firm fixed pricing and tiered pricing options for fiscal years 2009 and 2010 based on specific directivity requirements and quantity ranges. The system is designed for deployment at large hydro-electric dams, free-flowing sections of the river, and the Columbia River estuary to support critical juvenile salmon research study plans.

Full Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has developed and demonstrated a juvenile salmon acoustic telemetry system (JSATS) consisting of acoustic micro-transmitters (tags) and autonomous, cabled, and portable/mobile acoustic receivers that meet its needs for evaluating the survival of juvenile salmonids migrating through the Columbia River Federal Hydropower System (FCRPS). These receivers have been deployed at large hydro-electric dams, free flowing sections of the FCRPS as well as the estuary of the Columbia River. The JSATS receivers utilize either omni-directional or user defined directional hydrophones that consist of a piezoelectric element, shielded amplifier, non-conductive case, and underwater connector; the assembly is able to withstand a nd function at static pressure up to 600K Pa absolute. This acoustic system has a center frequency at 416.7 KHz. Specifications for hydrophone directivity and receive sensitivity at 416.7 KHz TBD. Present estimate of minimum acceptable (on axis) receiv e sensitivity at the indicated frequency is -180 dBV//?Pa ? 2 dBV. To meet the future requirements of juvenile salmon research study plans beginning in 2009 the USACE intends to award a 1 year (with 4 option years) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity fixed-price contract for the procurement of omni- and directional hydrophone assemblies that meet its specification requirements. The solicitation (RFQ) outlining these specifications will be posted on/or about 14 March 2008.
