The Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Correctional Complex Butner is issuing a sole source purchase order to Biodex for specialized physical therapy equipment tailored to support orthopedic and oncology rehabilitation missions. The procurement includes a range of advanced devices such as a Balance System for testing and training balance, a Gait Trainer treadmill equipped with biofeedback and detailed gait analysis capabilities, an Unweighing Support System for assisted ambulation, and several pieces of semi-recumbent exercise equipment designed for versatile aerobic and strength training. These products are uniquely suited to assist therapists in identifying and restoring normal gait patterns and functional mobility among debilitated inmates, thereby accelerating recovery times. The order specifies quantities and detailed features for each piece of equipment, emphasizing patient security, data tracking, and adaptable resistance or effort settings to accommodate a wide range of users. The Gait Trainer treadmill, for example, offers precise monitoring and feedback to improve gait patterns and will be used in conjunction with the Unweighing System to maximize rehabilitation outcomes. Approximately 7-8 therapists will use this equipment daily, highlighting the critical role these devices will play in enhancing physical therapy services at FCC Butner.
