The U.S. Army Medical Command's Western Regional Contracting Office in Tacoma, Washington, intends to award a sole source contract to Cyberonics for $31,000 to procure implant products for use at Madigan Army Medical Center. This acquisition is justified under FAR Subpart 13.106-1(b)(1) and FAR 6.302-1, indicating that the government plans to contract directly with a single source because the products uniquely meet the specific medical needs as determined by the attending surgeon. All implanted products must be FDA approved and tailored to the surgeon's and patient's specific medical requirements. The procurement will be conducted using Simplified Acquisition Procedures per FAR Part 13. Though this is a notice of intent, not a solicitation, the government invites other potential vendors that believe they can supply equivalent products to submit information and documentation to demonstrate their capabilities and product specifications. This exploratory information is intended for consideration in potential future procurements. Interested parties must respond in writing to the designated purchasing agent, with no telephone or fax inquiries accepted. The contract falls under the NAICS code 334510, which covers medical equipment manufacturing.
