Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an industry partner to help commercialize a portable, self-contained handheld device designed for oral diagnostics, developed with NIH funding. This innovative device detects biomarkers in oral fluids, which can indicate both oral diseases such as periodontal disease and systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease. The technology addresses previous challenges in saliva diagnostics including sensitivity, automation, miniaturization, and cost-effectiveness. The chosen partner will actively contribute to further development efforts by participating in NIH funding proposals and providing a comprehensive product development plan that includes validation, regulatory strategy, and clinical evaluation milestones. The partnership may take the form of a Cooperative Research & Development Agreement (CRADA) or a commercial license, with options for exclusive licensing on defined fields of use under reasonable terms. CRADAs are expected to include funding contributions to Sandia. Ideal candidates are companies with expertise in regulatory processes, clinical trials, technical capabilities, and manufacturing capacity needed to produce these diagnostic devices for market applications. Interested parties are invited to submit a brief company description and contact information by September 9, 2005, to initiate discussions with a Sandia representative regarding collaboration steps and requirements.

Sandia National Laboratories is actively soliciting an industry partner to commercialize a portable device being developed at Sandia for applications in oral diagnostics. Sandia's work to date, funded by NIH, has resulted in an easy-to-use diagnostic device, which is self-contained and handheld, for detection of biomarkers in oral fluids. Applications for this diagnostic platform include detection of biomarkers of oral (e.g., periodontal disease) and systemic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease) and conditions. Previous barriers to implementation of saliva diagnostics included sensitivity, miniaturization, automation and low cost. Sandia's work has overcome these barriers. The industry partner is also expected to actively participate in a funding proposal to NIH involving further development and commercialization of the portable device for oral diagnostics . The partner will facilitate Sandia's proposal by providing a product development plan that outlines validation and regulatory strategies through clinical evaluation to be achieved in the award years. The Partnership may take the form of a Cooperative Research & Development Agreement (CRADA) and/ or commercial licenses. Commercial licensees will have the option to obtain, up to and including, an exclusive license to the intellectual property in a pre-negotiated, defined field of use for reasonable compensation. CRADAs are expected to include funds-in to the Lab. If your company has the regulatory and clinical trial experience, technical capability and manufacturing capacity to produce these devices for commercial applications, and if you wish to pursue this unique opportunity, please email a brief description of your company, your contact information, and your interests in this venture to: contact@example.gov. You will be contacted by a business representative who will discuss the requirements and steps for working with Sandia. Please respond no later than Sept 9, 2005 Should you desire additional information please refer to our website: http://www.ca.sandia.gov/chembio/tech_projects/biotechnology/nih.html
