The Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically VISN 15 at the John Cochran St. Louis Medical Center, authorized a single source award to HLD Systems, LLC for the procurement of a ThermoSure Model 1010 medical device dryer. This acquisition, identified by Action ID 36C255-20-AP-2297 and solicitation number 36C25520P0464, was executed for an estimated amount of 32,480.66 dollars to support the reprocessing of medical devices used by VA personnel in response to COVID-19. The procurement was conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures in accordance with FAR 13.106-1, as the equipment was deemed essential for handling heat and moisture sensitive items including tubing, cuffs, and surgical instruments. The ThermoSure Model 1010 was selected as the sole source because it is the only dryer on the market offering a programmable user interface with versatile drying cycles, including heat and air circulation, heat only, or air circulation. The unit features a 40 cubic foot internal volume capacity and stainless-steel shelves capable of holding up to 40 pounds of equipment, making it uniquely suited for processing large volumes of multi-lumen and calibrated medical devices. Market research concluded that the equipment could only be provided by the original equipment manufacturer, and the purchase was certified and approved in July 2020.
