The Department of Veterans Affairs, through its Network Contracting Office 01, intends to award a sole source contract for the purchase of the Xsight Lung Tracking Phantom Kit and 4D Planning Phantom from CIRS Inc. for use at the Boston VA Medical Center. This equipment is essential for quality assurance and treatment planning of the CyberKnife linear accelerator, a specialized radiation therapy system recently installed at the facility. The unique capabilities of the CyberKnife require specialized QA tools that ensure the accuracy and safety of respiratory-managed radiotherapy, which is critical for treating lung cancer patients and supporting the VALOR CK trial comparing SBRT versus surgery for lung malignancy. The phantoms simulate human thoracic anatomy and respiratory motion, allowing precise verification of dose delivery and treatment plans using the CyberKnife and Multiplan System. This procurement will be conducted under a sole source authority due to CIRS Inc.’s unique capability in providing phantoms validated for use with CyberKnife systems. Interested vendors meeting the technical requirements are invited to demonstrate their capability by submitting a brief statement by the specified deadline; however, if no suitable responses are received, the VA will proceed with negotiations with the identified sole source vendor. The equipment will be utilized at the Radiation Oncology Service within the Boston VA Medical Center’s Jamaica Plain Campus, supporting both clinical patient care and critical national research efforts in lung cancer treatment. The contract falls under NAICS code 334510, pertaining to electromedical apparatus manufacturing, reflecting the specialized nature of the procurement.
