The Department of Veterans Affairs' James A. Haley Veterans Hospital plans to award a sole source contract for a high-fidelity ophthalmic surgical simulation system designed specifically for cataract and vitreoretinal surgery training. The simulator must offer realistic microsurgical visualization, tissue interaction modeling, and integrated haptic feedback that mimics intraocular resistance. It needs to provide structured multi-level training pathways, real-time performance scoring, and longitudinal tracking of trainee progress. The complete package includes a self-contained workstation with installed software and components, plus on-site training, all compliant with safety, electrical, and environmental standards. The agency currently recognizes only one capable source able to meet these essential requirements. While this notice is not a solicitation, vendors who believe their products match or exceed the required capabilities are encouraged to submit detailed supporting documentation via email to the Contracting Officer, Marcus Lewis, by June 24, 2026. Submissions will be reviewed to determine if a competitive procurement is warranted. The procurement process is managed under solicitation number 36C24826Q0816 by the VA’s Network Contract Office 8 in Tampa, Florida. Phone inquiries are not accepted, and responses must be emailed by the specified deadline for consideration.
