INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE: The Atlanta VA Medical Center located at 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur GA 30033 intends to sole source to COSMED USA Inc, a small business, located at 1850 Bates Ave, Concord CA 94520. Investigators at the Atlanta VA Medical Center s Rehabilitation Research & Development Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CVNR) are conducting research which utilizes physical activity to discover the rehabilitation potential and/or ameliorating effects of exercise on aging and disease. To assess individual cardiorespiratory health both pre- and post-intervention, the gold standard is to administer an exercise stress test while analyzing gas exchange. In addition, analyzing resting metabolic respiration allows one to assess the breakdown of nutrients and metabolic flexibility of an individual and the impacts of training on these parameters. A metabolic cart that integrates with varying ergometers, as well as assesses both resting and active metabolism, gives our researchers increased flexibility when designing research methods. It also ensures that the data and results are validated across multiple participants with varying conditions and diagnoses, as well as across varying projects with differing outcomes. This instills confidence in both the data sets and our research program as a whole.
